- Under the supervision of the WPE Manager, providetechnical oversight and capacity-building through training, mentorship and on-the-job support for community health volunteers (CHVs) and adolescent girls on WPE awareness-raising and referrals.
- Provide leadership and guidance regarding WPE activities to all community workers to ensure all program activities meet best practice standards as well as taking lead in male discussion sessions in Engaging Men through Accountable Practice.
- Monitor awareness raising sessions and one-on-one support to women, girls, and the general community on issues related to WPE.
- Work with health staff and monitor activities, when requested or advised.
- Strengthen and maintain networks with community leaders and groups and service providers to ensure that survivors receive compassionate support from the community and to encourage greater communication, collaboration and coordination among partners.
- Input into referral pathways to ensure a community perspective is included. Ensure referral pathways are shared and understood within the community
- Ensure WPE coordination partners and CHVs understand and are able to utilize the referral system effectively. Discuss difficult cases and next steps with the WPE Manager.
- Participate in development of monthly outreach plans with community workers, based on case trends and ongoing needs of women and girls, include strategies to reach women and girls who are more isolated/have special needs.
- Collect and collate data about WPE, monitor trends and emerging issues.
- Assist with identification of relevant WPE actors in Turkana. Visit stakeholders, conduct interviews, and compile responses.
- Assist with the identification of potential local partners. Provide input into capacity assessment and associated recommendations.
- Assist with developing adequate project monitoring systems and help to ensure that WPE community workers utilize these systems correctly and consistently.
- Assist with preparing all relevant reports regarding the IRC’s WPE activities.
- Ensure timely implementation of WPE program activities.
- Provide administrative and logistical support to the program.
- Fulfill any other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Quality program planning and implementation with partner organizations.
- Program objectives are achieved.
- Quality reports are produced and submitted on time.
- Coordination with other partners including government agencies is strengthened.
- Support and implement activities on adolescent girls programming
- Good coordination with partners in the WPE program area in particular Turkana Central and West
- Capacity of implementing partners in planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting is strengthened.
- Actively participate in WPE working group forums and other relevant forums at Turkana level
- Implement an effective referral system at the interagency and community level to ensure survivors can access quality services in a timely manner.
- Monitor internal referral system within IRC between the health and WPE program
- Diploma in counseling and/or psychology. A Social Science or related degree is preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of direct psychosocial / counseling experience with a reputable agency; experience working with survivors of violence preferred.
- Clear understanding of gender, abuse of power, and issues surrounding violence against women.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, medical ethics and respect for clients at all times.Experience in participatory techniques and community mobilization
- Strong ability to lead, train, facilitates and motivates others in their respective tasks in a professional, respectful and supportive manner.
- Positive, highly motivated, innovative, with strong organizational and inter-personal skills.
- Knowledge and ability to speak Ng’aturkana is an added advantage.
