Vacancy Announcement: Members of the Power of Mercy Advisory Committee
The Power of Mercy Advisory Committee is a Constitutional body established under Article 133 of the Constitution and operationalized by the Power of Mercy Act, 2011.
The Committee’s core mandate is to assist the President in the exercise of power of mercy. The following are the Advisory Committee’s functions:
a) Advise the President on petitions for the exercise of power of mercy;
b) Take into account, where necessary, the views of the victims of the offence in respect of which it is considering making recommendations to the President;
c) Undertake or commission research and collect data on matters relating to the power of mercy;
d) Work with State organs responsible for correctional services to educate persons in correctional services on the power of mercy and procedures relating to applications for its exercise;
e) Carry out any necessary investigations required to make a determination on a petition for power of mercy;
f) Undertake such other activity as may be necessary for the discharge of its functions and exercise of its powers; and
g) Carry out any other function as may be conferred on it under any other written law.
Members of the Advisory Committee serve on part time basis for a single term of 5 years and are not eligible for re-appointment.
