Wema Centre P2P (Peer to Peer) Coordinator Job in Mombasa Kenya

Wema Centre is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) registered as a Charitable Children’s Institution (CCI), with operations in Mombasa and Thika. 
It was founded in 1993 in response to the ever-increasing problem of street children in Mombasa and the Coast region, and therefore its focus is to rescue and rehabilitate as many street children as possible.

Wema Centre is inviting applications from suitable candidates for the post of P2P (Peer to Peer) Coordinator, to support its growing Street Outreach program. 

The officer will be based in Mombasa and will spend 80% or more of his/her time working directly with street children.

The Position is open to persons with a passion for street children for the duration of One Year.

General Duties: Reporting to the Advocacy Officer, the P2P Coordinator will ensure Street children are empowered to advocate for their basic rights and services and that marginalization of street children is addressed and significantly reduced. 

This includes, but is not limited to, guiding a team of 20 Peer Agents in conducting a series of Advocacy activities in Mombasa city.

Key Activities:

  • Working closely with the Advocacy Officer, ensure full compliance with Wema Centre’s Advocacy Plan 2014.
  • Management and supervision of 20 P2P agents in their work with street children
  • To network with a variety of public sector and voluntary organisations supporting street children and youth in Mombasa
  • To maintain up to date data and produce case studies and reports for monitoring and evaluation of the project in terms of expected outputs and outcomes.
  • Undertaking and writing up case assessments, conducting interviews with beneficiaries to assess and review their individual situation
  • With the guidance of the Advocacy Officer, ensure that awareness raising events and radio programmes have been held on national Media with the full participation of street children
  • Organizing and coordinating stakeholder forums and inter-agency discussions
  • Liaising with, and making referrals to, other agencies
  • Participating in multidisciplinary teams and meetings child protection, mental health and other pertinent issues concerning children
  • Maintaining accurate records and preparing reports
  • Participating in training, supervision and team meetings
  • Any other duties as may be directed by management from time to time
Job Competencies
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, Community Development, Social Work or related field
  • In lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree, a Diploma in a similar field with 2 (two) year’s practical experience
  • At least 1 (one) year’s work Experience directly with street children, with an understanding of the children’s way of life
  • Ability to write and present coherent, accurate reports
  • Ability to connect with and teach basic computer literacy to Street children and youth
  • Proficiency in both written & spoken English, and Kiswahili.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to establish priorities and motivate team members.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
