Reports to: Group Plant Manager
 
Positions reporting to this role: Quarry Foreman, Quarry Mechanics, Crusher- Concrete Batch Plant and Asphalt Plant Operators, HP Electrician, Quarry Store Assistants, Boiler Operator, Bitumen Decanting team, Quarry Operators and Drivers.
 
About the Position: He is responsible for ensuring that the quarry and opencast site operate successfully, achieving the company targets. This includes overseeing, controlling and monitoring production, operations and staff both at site and staff in the office. 

He will ensure the supervision and utilization of ready mix plant, crusher, asphalt plant and other construction production material production.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure that production levels are maintained safely and to schedule;
  • Monitor expenses versus production to ensure it is in line with projections and budget;
  • Ensuring availability of the quarry and altering the quarry’s production system in accordance with the materials required; liaising with projects and head office teams;
  • Setting, controlling, managing and monitoring production and staff performance; Producing frequent reports and statistics on the quarry’s performance;
  • Developing and sustaining positive relations and links with local groups and organizations not to impact quarry activities; Developing, managing and regulating the quarry’s budget;
  • Keeping up to date with relevant government legislation and industry developments; developing and ensure implementation of inspection systems and checklists;
  • Writing development proposals and reports;
  • In liaison with HR team hire, manage, train and develop staff;
  • Closely monitoring all areas of the quarry to ensure that extraction and processing work is carried out to the highest standard; Liaising with staff on site and dealing with any technical or staffing challenges that arise;
  • Undertake regular site inspections and risk assessments in order to comply with all health and safety regulations; examining the materials produced to ensure that a high quality of product is maintained;
  • Assessing equipment and production materials levels; ordering new items as required;
  • Checking that all Plants and equipment on site are maintained to a good standard;
  • Deliver and manage in line with approved staff management policies and procedures and Quality, Safety Health & Environment (SQHE) policy; and any other duties that may be assigned from time to time
Key Requirements
  • Diploma in Mechanical or Mining Engineering (E), A degree is desirable, a qualification in fleet management ( D), 12 years progressive experience in a similar environment , 5 of which be in a similar and senior role ( E)
  • Delivery on performance measures as set in SLA signed with each Project Manager, 100% compliance to DPP, CAPEX and Operating cost budgets, Timely submission of relevant and quality report
  • Both locals and Expatriates invited to apply
  • Location is Sites (Baringo, Marakwet or Meru sites), will be required atleast 50% around the sites
Knowledge and  Expertise
  • A sound working knowledge of general workshop safety and housekeeping, equipment insurance, administration and documentation ( E),
  • Experience of writing procedures, drafting reports, preparing business cases and compiling and adjusting duty rosters to meet shortfalls in staffing levels, understands staff handling processes such as recruitment, disciplinary, grievance handling and performance management ( E),
  • Sound P&E maintenance and repair practices, fuel management and consumption, calibration, optimizing plant efficiency, stock / equipment keeping and inventory management
