Our client, a leading Membership based Business Association in the Financial Services Sector is looking for professionals to run its secretariat and ensure the association’s head office operations are run effectively and efficiently.

The association is looking an for energetic, self driven enthusiastic professional to fill the following position:

Chief Executive Officer
1 Position


Role Overview: Reporting to the board of the association, the Chief Executive Officer will be responsible for overall direction, managing, coordinating and supervising the activities of the association and ensure set associations goals and objectives are achieved.  
S/He will oversee the team’s achievements and also oversee other departments within the Associations Head Office. 
They will lead in formulating and administering organization policies to ensure that optimal performance and result oriented culture is built and fostered. 
They will be ultimately responsible for the performance and industry and stakeholder representation of the association’s issues of concern.

Job Description

Responsibility 1: Policy Implementation

  • Adopting the policies passed by the Board for execution at various levels
  • Dissemination of the policies changes and reviews to the respective members and bodies/association
  • Liaison officer in fronting the Association interests on various policy meeting with stakeholders
  • Communication on the content and relevance of the various issues affecting the Association position/policies to the Board.
  • Evaluate the regulatory compliance of the Association.
  • Provide effective oversight of the Association secretariat to ensure the Association meets its mandate as per the constitution.
  • Provide timely response to policy/issues raised by the Board as per set deadlines.
  • Ensure funds in the organization are invested as per guideline of the Board.
Responsibility 2: Overall Corporate Strategic Planning
  • In conjunction with the Board of Director steers the development/review of the Association strategic plan in line with the envisaged growth path.
  • Co-ordinate with the relevant bodies/consultant on preparation of the strategic plan in liaison with the Board.
  • Ensure the strategies and action plans are implemented at the set time lines met.
  • Co-ordinate the various units of the Association to ensure resources, capacity and the necessary tool are available for implementation of the strategic plan.
  • Continuously   monitor and evaluate the achievement of the strategies stated and mechanism set for achievement.
  • Design and implementation plan for the strategic plan to be reviewed by the Board on agreed intervals.
  • Advise the Board on the resourcing requirements for the strategic plan to succeed, including any potential outsourcing arrangements.
  • Provide the rationale in case of any changes on the agreed plan within the year.
Responsibility 3: Public Relations & Social Welfare
  • Provide the Public awareness programs for the review by the Board with supporting budgets.
  • Ensure the Public awareness program and events are executed and expected resulted achieved and any variance to be explained to the Board.
  • Ensure members are informed in good time of all the activities and events of the Association.
  • Conduct review of the events to assess their effectiveness, success and impact and provide a report to the Board.
  • Ensure the members welfare activities, programs and Sacco are well managed to create value for the members and communication done on time.
  • Follow up on affiliations and associations with other related bodies and regional associations as directed by the Board.
  • Coordinate and seek for sponsorship for the Association events from various stakeholders.
  • Develop a newsletter on Association activities, events, new policies and create awareness on any new information in the industry.
  • Responsible for external communication with all stakeholders on Association activities and events.
Responsibility 4: Technical, Legal and Research Role
  • Ensure the legislations affecting Association and its member’s well updated and respective department prepare Board papers for review.
  • Co-ordinate the Provision of legislative interpretation from technical team on matters affecting members/Association.
  • Ensure the correspondence on Board petition for any Act of parliament affecting the members of the Association are carried out.
  • Oversee the compliance and enforcement of regulations set for the members of the professional body through the set mechanism.
  • Ensure the Board decision on disciplinary measures is executed.
  • Follow up to ensure the Board decision on arbitration mechanism is enforced.
  • Ensure Board papers on emerging issues, trends, and new business frontiers are prepared.
  • Ensure continuously training and development for members is carried out on new development in the industry.
Responsibility 5: Operational Excellence
  • Ensure the secretariat is run in the most effective and efficient way with expense being managed
  • Prepare an annual budget for discussion and approval by the Approval.
  • Ensure annual audit are carried out as per international Financial Accounting standards.
  • Ensure membership portfolio grows and renewals are done on time.
  • Ensure professional vibrancy of the Association through ensuring public awareness program and events achieve the intend goals.
  • Ensure insurance program for organization and staff are undertaken and renewed at required time.
  • Ensure Board meeting are organized at set times and necessary documents circulated within specified time.
  • Ensure the secretariat embraces technology and digitalization of process for improved internal and external business processes.
  • Provide guidelines on the optimal use of resources at the secretariat.
Responsibility 6: Staff Management and Performance Review
  • Ensure the secretariat is adequately staffed with the right skills set for all the functions.
  • Update and revise Job description of staff to ensure their current role match with their job description.
  • Identify areas for training and development of the employees and continuous build their capacity in delivery of service.
  • Review and approval of the payroll.
  • Custodian of the Employee personal files and other confidential documents.
  • Ensure staff welfare schemes i.e. medical scheme among other are well managed and updated.
  • Ensure staff are engaged and motivated to perform at all times through developing motivation programs.
  • Ensure staff leave is managed effectively and no leave are carried over to next year.
  • Management of performance appraisal system for the secretariat staff twice annually and the recommendation forwarded to the Board.
  • Discuss key performance indicators with the staff at beginning of each year and incorporated the annual strategic objectives cascaded to respective members of staff.
Skill Requirements
  • First Degree in Bachelors of Commerce, Business Management or Diploma in Law;
  • Professional qualifications in Insurance will be an added advantage.
  • At least five (5) years experience in the service industry with three (3) years at managerial level.
