Vacancy: Yard Manager – Transport Company
Our client is a logistics, distribution and transportation company. 
They have presence in Kenya with plans to expand to the rest of the East African region.
Our client is looking for a versatile seasoned Yard personnel who has served in senior positions with fast moving organizations handling high volumes. 

The personnel will execute and drive the company’s strategic vision along with managing the daily transport, logistics and fleet operations.

Our client would like to fill the position of a Yard Manager.
Job Purpose / Summary: The job holder will oversee proper yard management to track the movement of trailers and provide inventory visibility with the loading / offloading bay ensuring efficiency in service delivery at the yard.
Duties and Responsibilities
Motor Vehicle Maintenance
  • Oversee maintenance of a large fleet of motor vehicles including large haulage trucks
  • Develop and supervise sound maintenance schedules
  • Develop logistic plans and ensure adherence to plans
  • Allocate vehicles in line with business needs
  • Track and manage driver performance against set delivery schedules/timelines
  • Optimize vehicle utilization and maintain manageable costs
Fuel Management
  • Develop fuel consumption tracking procedures
  • Manage fuel inventories and monitor fuel usage by own and subcontracted operators
  • Effectively manage fuel procurement , storage and issuance procedures
Commercial Management
  • Implement subcontracted outsourced service providers ensure strict adherence to contracts
  • Track performance of outsourced/subcontracted service providers
  • Ensure transportation projects are executed efficiently and delivery is made on time with minimum claims and accidents
  • Oversee proper fleet management to improve the utilization and availability of the fleet, reduce downtime and reduce maintenance cost.
  • Sets out specific performance targets in key areas as business development, operations; evaluates performance against these standards; assist the department managers in improving their performance.
  • Conduct meetings to ensure that team goals and projects are achieved according to established guidelines, procedures and policies.
  • Daily communications on exceptions, facilitytransport environment, staffing, problem resolution and of maintenance/service needs.
Minimum Requirements
  • A minimum of a degree in Business Administration / Mechanical Engineering or its equivalent.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a busy motor vehicle yard as a supervisor/manager with a reputed organization.
  • Knowledge of spare part procurement and inventory management
  • Proven work experience in fleet management, distribution, logistics or trucking business highly desirable.
  • Prior experience managing teams is required.

Salary budget: Kshs.80,000 – 100,000
