Vice Chancellor – Academic Affairs
Job Location: Burundi
Job Summary: As part of the Senior Vice-President and Chancellor’s Office, the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs provides the executive leadership in assisting the Senior Vice President and Chancellor in the overall planning, organizing, and controlling of the academic program areas.
Duties and Responsibilities;


Academic Administration;
  • Provides leadership in all academic matters; initiates, participates in and supervises academic planning.
  • Overseeing academic program reviews and curriculum development
  • Maintains liaison with other Universities and external groups and agencies on academic programs
Personnel Administration and Development;
  • Supervision of the personnel reporting to this position
  • Evaluate and approve as delegate their recommendations for new faculty
  • Professional and support staff in the university’s academic and academically-related programs
  • Oversight of faculty and professional staff development
Personnel Evaluation;
  • Evaluate administrators reporting to this position
  • Review and recommend action on applications for faculty and staff promotion and tenure
  • Review and recommend merit
  • Market and equity salary adjustments for university staff
Fiscal Administration;
  • Supervises the budget preparation of the academic- related programs
  • Allocates and reallocates funds and resources as appropriate to /from academic related cost centers
General Administration;
  • Preparation of reports, correspondence, etc.
  • Coordination of Academically related programs with administrative affairs and university relations
  • Meeting attendance
  • Oversight of grant applications and supervision of the university’s projects
Required knowledge and Skills
  • Ability to exercise a collaborative style of management
  • Ability secure a financial base sufficient to allow the delivery of the University’s mission, aims and objectives
  • lead the development of the University’s sustainability programme, to sustain our leading reputation in this field
  • Strong team building skills and the ability to work effectively and collegially with others
  • Demonstrated leadership and managerial skills
  • Ability to exercise a collaborative style of management
  • Highly developed skills in written and oral communication, human relations, and creative problem solving
  • Commitment to enhancing and maintaining diversity among faculty, staff and students
  • Commitment to Christian Higher Education
Qualification Requirements
  • Master’s degree in related field. Doctorate degree is a plus
  • At least 5 years’ of relevant senior level professional experience in higher education
  • Proven strong managerial and collegial leadership in student affairs or related academic affairs
  • Demonstrated knowledge of administrative support areas
  • Demonstrated positive leadership in developing collaborative relationships with internal and external constituencies
