The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) is a state Authority created under an Act of Parliament No.35 of 2011, with the mandate of holding the police accountable to the public in the performance of their functions.

IPOA will soon open offices in Kisumu, Garissa and Mombasa.

The Authority wishes to recruit results oriented Kenyan citizens with drive, vision and creativity to fill the following positions:-

Inspections Officer

IPOA Grade 6

6 Positions

Consolidated Salary: Kes.90,000 – 130,000

Reports to Head Inspections and Monitoring and work under the guidance of a senior inspections officer.

Job Description

(i) Conducting inspection of police premises and detention facilities under the Control of the service;

(ii) Preparing timely and accurate inspection reports;

(iii) Conducting of thematic, impromptu and routine Inspections of Police premises in accordance with laid down regulations;

(iv) Providing rapid response action during eventualities;

(v) Any other administrative and operational duties as assigned by the Director of Inspections and Monitoring from time to time.


  • Must be a citizen of Kenya.
  • Meets the requirements of Chapter six of the Constitution of Kenya.

Required functional skills:

For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Law, Public Administration, Criminology & Criminal Justice, Sociology, Political Science, Human Rights, Social Sciences, recognized military or police degree or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution; and
  • Excellent knowledge of relevant computer applications.

Required behavioural skills:

  • A candidate must be a person of integrity, demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and be a team player;
  • Demonstrate high ethical standards;

ii. Ethics and Anti- Corruption Commission (EACC);

iii. Higher Education Loans Board (HELB);

iv. Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI); and

v. Credit Reference Bureau (CRB)
