Project: Predicting Early Cardiovascular Risk among HIV-infected and Uninfected Kenyan Adults Study

Predicting Early Cardiovascular Risk among HIV-infected and Uninfected Kenyan Adults is a partnership between the National AIDS and STI Control Program (NASCOP), Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), and the University of Washington is currently seeking qualified and competent person to fill the   following position for a clinical trial.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepares, instructs and educates patients on carotid ultrasound procedures
  • Ensures patient consent is signed for the ultrasound procedure
  • Independently perform the carotid ultrasound, obtain images of the common carotid, bulb, internal and external carotids.
  • Provides measurements as necessary for a complete evaluation of both right and left carotids.
  • Ensures proper equipment operation during patient exams. This includes skills in basic troubleshooting, equipment cleaning, storage and preventative maintenance.
  • Maintain equipment in working order, making minor adjustments and repairs, perform routine cleaning and preventive maintenance and report any equipment malfunction to supervisor.
  • Process labels, folders and films for each participant.
  • Read all ultrasound images and prepare the report to be reviewed by the radiologist
  • Maintains accurate documentation and record keeping for all participants including the baseline questionnaire.
  • Maintain all necessary supplies including ordering and stocking.
  • Maintains a clean work area and implement infection prevention precautions as required.
  • Utilize Open Data Kit (ODK) on mobile phones to complete data collection
  • Prepare weekly, monthly and quarterly reports for the Study Coordinator
  • Perform other duties as directed by study coordinator

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or degree in Radiography and Sonography accreditation
  • Previous experience conducting Ultrasound procedures
  • Be registered with the Kenya Society of Radiographers Minimum of 1 year working experience as an ultra sonographer
  • Basic computer skills particularly for Word-processing, spreadsheets and e-mail
  • Strong communication skills in English, Kiswahili and Dholuo
  • Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication skills both written and verbal
