Job Title: Research Nurse

Position Description: The research nurse responsibilities will involve patient registration, data collection, data submission, patient follow-up and records management in a study that will be carried out in Bungoma.

The study will involve working with pregnant mothers in the ANC and follow up till delivery.

The newborns will be monitored in their perinatal period.

The research nurse should have additional skills such as data management, physical assessment skills, leadership ability and communication skills.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

  • To recruit and evaluate study patients, schedule appointments and interviews.
  • To act as liaison between principal investigators and sub-investigators
  • To recruit and evaluate study patients, schedule appointments and interviews.
  • To review medical records for potential study patients and ensures that medical records include documentation of all laboratory test results and procedures and progress of study patients, following guidelines set forth by the protocol sponsors.
  • To instruct potential study patients on study requirements, treatments and side effects.
  • To assist the investigator with consent process assuring study patients understand clinical trials and obtains written informed consent.
  • To educate study patients concerning informed consent procedures
  • To document study patient’s medical history including but not limited to past medical/ surgical treatments, significant medical conditions, and medication history per protocol guidelines.
  • To perform nursing assessments and monitor study patient’s progress during the study
  • To coordinates research activities not limited to: scheduling laboratory tests, radiology testing and other medical exams.
  • To maintain accurate, complete, up-to-date records on each patient participating in the study
  • To develop case report forms and/or databases
  • To provide education to all departments and clinical areas where study is performed.
  • To attends to research meetings and conferences as required.
  • To participate in staff meetings and in-service education of nursing and medical staff.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Qualified KRCHN. BSN qualification preferred.
  • Desirable if the potential nurse has education on human research subjects.
  • 2-5 years clinical nursing experience especially on midwifery and Research
