Our client in the Agricultural sector is sourcing for a Farm Manager to be based at the Dairy farm located in the Kenya Highlands.
The farm is approximately 848 acres with about 70 employees.
Responsibilities:
- Plan finances and production to maintain farm progress against budget parameters
- Supervise or undertake practical activities, such as driving tractors, operating machinery, feeding livestock or spraying fields
- Marketing the farm’s products
- Buy supplies, such as fertilizer and seeds
- Arrange the maintenance and repair of farm buildings, machinery and equipment
- Plan and be responsible for the training, mentoring and monitoring of all farm employees
- Understand the implications of the weather and make contingency plans
- Make sure products are ready for deadlines, such as auctions and markets
- Ensure that farm activities comply with government regulations
- Monitor animal health and welfare, including liaising with vets
- Maintain a knowledge of pests and diseases and an understanding of how they spread and how to treat them
- Apply health and safety standards across the farm
- Comply with NEMA regulations
- Weekly across the board progress reports with ownership
- Regular performance appraisals of all farm employees to ensure standards are upheld
Qualifications and Experience:
- Previous hands-on farming experience specifically dairy
- Education: farm business management, or agricultural engineering, or land management
- Organisational and time-management skills
- Supervisory skills and management ability
- A full driving license ( for car, tractor, lorry)
- Familiarity with milking machinery and animal feed processing
- Self-motivation, with the ability to motivate others
- Negotiation skills
- IT skills incl. Word processing and spreadsheets
- A good understanding of modern farming methods
- A commitment to animal welfare
