The Academy is seeking to recruit motivated teachers who will work in a fast paced environment in the following areas.

Chemistry teacher with a second teaching subject in Biology, Mathematics or Physics at the senior school section

Key responsibilities

  • Teaching Chemistry and the identified second subject in Years 7-13 classes.
  • Prepare schemes of work and lesson plans according to the syllabus and translate them into learning experiences.
  • Provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
  • Plan, initiate and guide the units of study in Chemistry and the second subject i.e. Biology/Physics/Mathematics and use a variety of instruction strategies.
  • Create and evaluate assessments of each student’s academic work and social growth and keep records updated.
  • Communicate with parents on students’ progress.
  • Administer and mark assessments.
  • Set and assign appropriate homework on a regular basis to reinforce student learning and to prepare them for further class activities.
  • Use teaching methods that are engaging to students and stimulating intellectual curiosity including the effective use of resources.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Participate in curriculum development programs as required
  • Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the school day.
  • Contribute to the extra-curricular activities programme
  • Participate in continuous professional development as required

Desired Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Education Science or Bachelor of Science with a postgraduate diploma in Education with Chemistry as the major subject and Biology/Mathematics/Physics as the minor subject from a recognized University.
  • Must be registered with Teachers Service Commission.
  • Teaching experience of more than five years in a school offering the UK Curriculum (IGCSE, AS & A Levels).

Primary teacher at the Junior school section

Key responsibilities

  • Teaching at least three of the core subjects in Junior school in Years 4 – 6 classes.
  • Prepare schemes of work and lesson plans according to the syllabus and translate them into learning experiences.
  • Provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
  • Plan, initiate and guide the units of study in respective subjects and use variety of instruction strategies.
  • Create and evaluate assessments of each student’s academic work and social growth and keep records updated.
  • Communicate with parents on students’ progress.
  • Administer and mark assessments.
  • Communicate regularly and constructively with students and staff.
  • Set and assign appropriate homework on a regular basis to reinforce student learning and to prepare them for further class activities.
  • Use teaching methods that are engaging to students and stimulating intellectual curiosity including the effective use of resources.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree from a Kenyan University in Education (Primary option)
  • Must be registered with Teachers Service Commission.
  • Teaching experience of more than five years in a school offering an international curriculum.

Head of School, Sports and Physical Education

Key responsibilities

  • Leading, managing and co-ordinating activities of the school.
  • Take a lead role in continuous professional development programs in the school.
  • Be accountable for student progress so that each individual student achieves their optimum level in Sports and P.E.
  • Work with the teachers within the school, lead curriculum development and assessment.
  • Ensure the effective management and deployment of teaching staff and physical resources within the school.
  • Ensuring that the image of the Jaffery Academy in sports and sporting activities is high.
  • Encourage participation and leading school teams in the local, national and international sporting tournaments.
  • Monitor and advise staff on appropriate professional conduct as well as well as induct new staff to the school in accordance with school policy and oversee their work as appropriate.
  • Monitor staff absence within the school and provide appropriate support and guidance in addition to ensuring that quality cover work is provided for classes when staff are absent.
  • Constructively contribute to the performance appraisal for all staff in the school.
  • Organize and Chair meetings of the school team and ensure that minutes of meetings are circulated to team members, the Vice Principal (Teaching Learning & Curriculum) and the Principal.
  • Ensure a prompt response to parental enquiries about individual student progress within the school.
  • Ensure that Health and Safety procedures are adhered to at all times by all members of the school.
  • Teach lessons in accordance with the school’s requirement for a Head of School.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Physical Education and Sports or a Bachelor of Science, Sports Science with a higher diploma in education from a recognised University.
  • Must be registered with the Teachers Service Commission.
  • Teaching experience of more than five years in a school offering an international curriculum.
  • Must be a qualified first aider.
