Job Title: Executive Director

Reporting To: The Board

Location: Nakuru

The Executive Director will be responsible for the realization of Nakuru Region Inter-Diocesan Christian Community Service (NRIDCCS) Vision, Mission and Strategic Objectives.

He/She will play a key role in resource mobilization, must have proposal writing skills and must have successfully written proposals that have been funded by donors.

He/she will supervise a wide range of programme and will be responsible for the delivery and overall success of each programme.

He/she will represent NRIDCCS to the government, donors, partners and related agencies

Duties and Responsibilities

Governance

  • Works closely with the organization’s Board to articulate its own role, accountabilities and that of its committees and also evaluate performance regularly.
  • He/she will be accountable to the Board for overall corporate performance including programme management, resource mobilization, financial management, monitoring, evaluation, and learning, overall organizational efficiency and institutional effectiveness.
  • He/she must have a strategic mindset as well as being able to lead and develop all the staff.
  • Ensures team understanding of NRIDCCS values, vision and mission
  • Community needs identification and liaison with relevant partners, the county government, national government and likeminded persons.
  • Inter-Diocesan Liaison and coordination through respective diocesan Board of Social Services
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the organization’s employees by supporting Human resource strategies, processes and systems.
  • Develop strategy for organization self-sustainability
  • Ensure staff ownership and responsibility for the projects.

Strategic Planning

  • Providing overall leadership to NRIDCCS and leading in strategic planning and implementation
  • Ensures NRIDCCS’s programmes are planned logically and that inputs, outputs, outcomes, desired impact and key performance indicators are defined in advance for every project that the organization undertakes.
  • Manage team activities to ensure programmes are implemented according to the organization’s standards and according to measurable objectives
  • Ensures that a mechanism exists in which key risks and assumptions can be analyzed properly in advance.
  • Represents the organization in the relevant forums and delegates as appropriate.

Resource Mobilization

  • Oversees budget control, accurate costing and managing programme expenditure against the agreed budget.
  • In collaboration with the Board of Directors, ensures the organization’s fund raising targets policies are clearly defined and met.
  • Oversee design and implementation of the Resource Mobilization strategy policy.
  • Provide technical support and advice on the resource Mobilization framework development.
  • Reviewing resource mobilization progress and providing guidance on the areas to improve on.

Liaison and PR

  • Development and implementation of communication and public relation strategies framework for the organization’s in line with the organization objectives.
  • Maintains regular contacts with the aid and development agencies and maintains awareness and understanding of current issues relating to development.
  • Oversees preparation of press and publicity materials, development and updating the website by ensuring compliance to international web standards and introducing new online platforms and technologies such as e-learning, online discussions forums, conference registration etc.
  • Ensures NRIDCCS’s achievements are communicated effectively to key external audiences.
  • Develops and maintains productive relationships with donors, community, Government of Kenya and partners in accordance with the established structures and agreed- upon communication channels.
  • Acts as the Secretary to the Board, and hence spokesperson for the organization.
  • Keeps the organization’s Board and donors informed on the progress of program implementation.

Strategic Oversight

  • Initiate, co-ordinate and participate in the organization and development of the organization’s strategic plans and objectives and facilitate the implementation and monitoring of the same in liaison with the Board.
  • Manages the day-to-day running of the organization’s programmes and ensures maintenance of strategic overview of the organization’s programmes and ensures maintenance of strategic overview of the organization’s programmes.
  • Provides direction to the organization’s staff on all aspects of design, implementation and monitoring and evaluation.
  • Overseeing the management and delivery of organization-wide strategic themes, programs and project.
  • Approves all reports and documents before submission to donors or dissemination to stakeholders.
  • Ensures funders are regularly updated on progress and developments in programmes

  • Leading line managers and senior managers and provide support, advice and resources to meet all project/program needs and developments

Financial Management

  • Participating in budgeting and financial management as required and ensuring the proper management of all delegated budgets.
  • Ensures all resources allocated to or mobilized by the organization are effectively and efficiently managed by maintaining financial control procedures, records and accountability standards

Qualifications and Experience

  • The ideal candidate should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Business Administration, or any other relevant field (Masters is an added advantage).
  • The candidate should also possess at least 7 years’ working experience in development-related fields as programme manager or equivalent.
  • Minimum (5) years proven track record in leading and managing a development organization and / or development programme.
  • Possession of a valid driving license will be an added advantage
  • Working knowledge of MS office, financial management, E-mail and Internet.

The Executive Director should demonstrate competence in some or all of the following:

  • Religion: He/she should be a Christian preferably and Anglican communicant
