Job Opportunity: Qualitative Transcribers

The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is an African-led and Africa-based international research institute engaged in multidisciplinary, evidence-based policy research.

Our research addresses important issues and challenges facing Africa in areas such as education, health, population, aging, urbanization and wellbeing. We engage with policymakers in the region to disseminate our research findings, influence policy decisions and improve the quality of life in Africa.

The Education and Youth Empowerment Unit wishes to engage four transcribers for one of its projects to help transcribe qualitative data collected from diverse education stakeholders in four counties in Kenya.

Minimum qualifications:

  • A minimum of C+ in KCSE (with a minimum of C+ in English and Kiswahili languages) and a post-secondary education qualification.
  • Experience and skills in transcribing qualitative data.
  • Qualitative skills such conducting interviews and coding are an added advantage.
  • Previous engagement with APHRC will also be considered as an added advantage.

Job Description (Responsibilities):

  • Listen to recorded audio files and transcribe proceedings according to agreed timelines.
  • Translate recorded audio files into English.
  • Write and share a debrief report of the transcribing process.
  • Attend meetings with project staff.
