Assistant Hotel Manager Job in Kenya

We are seeking to recruit a highly competent, hands on and proactive Assistant Hotel Manager to primarily coordinate and oversee the operations of the hotel.

The Assistant Hotel Manager shall be responsible for achieving consistent optimal guest satisfaction, maintaining a good working environment, and ensuring maximization of financial performance, and staff development within established quality standards.

To achieve this, s/he will be expected to assist in coordinating the operations of the hotel in accordance with the hotel’s operating procedures and policies.

Primary responsibilities;

1) Create an operating environment that assures consistent guest satisfaction.

2) Monitor the performance of the hotel through verification and analysis of guest satisfaction systems and financial reports, and initiate corrective action as applicable.

3) Maintain product and service quality standards by conducting ongoing evaluations and investigating complaints; initiate corrective action.

4) Execute operational activities, producing results that meet or exceed the hotel’s expectations.

5) Guard the efficiency and productivity of the hotel:

  • Draw up plans and budget concepts (revenues, costs, etc.);
  • Safeguard the realization, tracing and adjustment of deviations;
  • Develop improvement actions and ensure cost savings;
  • Control cost price;
  • Delivering of data and proposals for the budgets and investments;
  • Safeguard quality of operations through internal & external audits.

6) Ensure good safety practices of employees and guests, assisting in the maintenance of proper emergency and security procedures.

7) Establish and maintain a pro–active human resource functions to ensure employee motivation, training and development, wage and benefits administration, and compliance with established labor regulations and further;

  • Coordinate planning of all hotel staff with regard to time–tables, work schedules, employment of employees within the different services; solving of bottle necks;
  • Coordinate the execution of activities via instructions to the staff;
  • Determine the need to recruit new staff; supervise the staff to ensure they perform, as well as train the staff.
  • Be accountable for responsibilities of staffs in their absence.

8) Ensure consistent maintenance of applicable preventive maintenance programs to protect the physical assets of the hotel.

9) Optimally implement SOP’s in the hotel and act as a flagship establishment for the brand.

10) Prepare monthly reports that clearly explain operational effectiveness, trends and variances for the management’s attention.

11) Ensure adequate administration for the outgoing and incoming invoices, for the payment of invoices and for drawing up periodical management data; justify deviations and differences.

12) Ensure consistent compliance to applicable legal requirements, including licensing laws, health and safety, and other statutory regulations.

Minimum Requirements

  • Degree/Diploma in a relevant field
  • Must have 3 – 5 years of successful, operational management experience in a high end hotel environment.


  • People management skills with strength in people development/training, implementation of standards and structuring of a team
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Basic accounting skills and strong analytical/decision making skills
  • Demonstrated achievement in staff selection, coaching and development.
  • Logistical planning skills
