Agribusiness Chief Accountant Job in Kenya

We are a leading player in Agribusiness in East African region.

We supply and install a wide range of Agricultural equipment, Irrigation Systems and water solutions and Hospitality equipment.

We are looking for a self-driven individual to fill the position below:

Chief Accountant

The Chief Accountant will be tasked with financial management of the Company’s operations. S/he will also be tasked with maintenance of the necessary systems and controls to safeguard the company’s assets and maintain the integrity of its financial data and operations.

Reporting Line: General Manager

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Operations

  • Responsible for day to day finance and accounts operations
  • Generating relevant projections and weekly forecasting, and manage the capital needs and budgeting process of the company
  • Maintaining internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, project budgets and actual expenditures
  • Preparing of monthly management accounts and annual statutory financials statements; and communicating the analysis to GM and Board on a regular basis (weekly, monthly, quarterly and annually).
  • Participating in the Operational Review meetings and represent the finance division in those meetings
  • Serving as the primary interface on all banking, treasury and board-level presentations.

Cost Accounting

  • Handle full spectrum of financial and cost accounting role i.e. AR, AP, GL and forecasting, budgeting.
  • Perform cash flow forecasting, budgeting and working closely with the operations department and Sales team in analyzing margins, variances and cost analysis.
  • Establish and maintain systems for cost-sensitivity analysis and early-warning of cost-overruns
  • Work consultatively with the respective departments on cost reduction initiatives

Projects Accounting & Analysis

  • Perform project cost forecasts/budgets, cost tracking, monitoring and controls. Issue project cost reports for review and approval

Management Accounts

  • Responsible for preparation of monthly consolidated financial statements, payments, cash-flow management reporting for submission and ensure timely closing of these accounts for reporting purposes.

Internal Controls

  • Develop and maintain internal controls and effective accounting system and policies
  • Review & approve payment vouchers & journal entries


  • Ensuring that existing finance guidelines and related administrative procedures are adhered to, and updated where necessary
  • Overseeing all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems hence ensuring compliance with appropriate IFRS standards and regulatory requirements


  • Advising the GM and BoD on the financial implications of business/project activities
  • Leading the design and implementation of the structure of financial resources and all financial operations of the company
  • Providing internal leadership and direction to immediate reports of the Finance Department
  • Assisting in recruiting new officers for the department and develop training models for the department’s staff


  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance and Accounting or a Business related field
  • MBA will be an added advantage
  • CPA (K) or ACCA Qualification
  • At least 10 years’ experience in a financial management capacity
  • Working knowledge of Navision Software
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Excellent knowledge of financial compliance and governance requirements
  • Proven analytical skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully under pressure
