Vacant Position: OVT Project Manager

Location: Wau –South Sudan

Reports To: Country Director

Supervises: OVT Teams

Contract Length: One year (renewable)

Responsibilities:  

Working under the direction of the Country Director and senior technical team in cooperation with other OVT programs and World Concern South Sudan staff and beneficiary communities, the Officer will be responsible for the following:

 

  • Strategic Approach:

 

    • Demonstrate participatory processes and promote community ownership, community empowerment and excellence in development
    • Ensure work plans and activities are consistent with World Concern’s philosophy of ministry
    • Articulate and adopt strategies that focus on sustainability and environmental awareness
    • Regularly review the program’s direction and progress with the Program Manager and Country Director
    • Develop strategies for raising resources for WCDO/ OVT program which includes drafting/ writing fundable proposals

 

  • Stakeholder Communication:

 

    • Serve as focal person for the OVT and other projects in greater Bahr el Ghazal, ensuring appropriate and effective communication with target communities
    • Advocate for WCDO/OVT communities with the government, churches and other local stakeholders
    • Introduce World Concern to new communities, including outlining our mission, vision, values, goals and objectives as well as the integrated, asset-based nature of the program
    • Liaise with government offices and other development partners on the ground as necessary for the effective operation of the project at field level
    • Represent World Concern in meetings with communities, churches, government and local leadership, exemplifying the values and beliefs of the organization
    • Establish and maintain good relationship with the local and regional church

 

  • Project Implementation:

 

    • Assist the Area Manager to oversee implementation of the Project strategic approach
    • Create and enforce systems that ensure good performance of community-based savings and credit schemes and micro-enterprise development activities
    • In partnership with the program team and community, design, manage and improve upon livelihood and Nutrition strategies in targeted communities throughout the great Bahr el Ghazal region
    • Enforce quality standards in both hardware and software across all sectors of implementation

 

  • Spiritual Development:

 

    • Provide a positive witness of Jesus Christ through personal work integrity
    • Explore partnership potential with the local church
    • Integrate spiritual development opportunities, including outreach and discipleship opportunities, for both staff and beneficiaries into programs in all locations

 

  • Staff Coordination/Management:

 

    • Participate in identification and management of project staff and community-level mobilizers
    • Liaise between assistant program staff, community-level mobilizers and the Project Manager
    • Build the capacity of program staff, with a focus on improving facilitation skills and report writing.

 

  • Reporting:

 

    • Submit regular activity reports according to the timeline set by headquarters
    • Provide accurate reporting through narratives, photos and videos, including translation of materials, as needed
    • Collect, record, analyze, manage and secure program data

Required Education, Skills & Experience:

 

  • Spiritually mature follower of Jesus Christ, with sound biblical knowledge and commitment to World Concern’s values, vision and mission
  • BA degree in Community Development or related field (e.g. agronomy, economic development) or equivalent work experience
  • At least 5 years field experience working in integrated development/ programming
  • Ability to work proactively with little supervision
  • Evidence of strong Christian commitment with leadership and discipleship skills and a willingness to learn
  • Demonstrated success in working cross-culturally with diverse communities and teams
  • Strong facilitation and capacity building skills
  • Ability to maintain performance expectations in diverse cultural contexts, psychologically stressful environments and physical hardship conditions with limited resources
  • Extensive experience in integrating development work with biblically-informed values and beliefs
  • Knowledge of international standards (e.g. Sphere, HAP)
  • English, fluent written and spoken
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office, Internet and Email

 

Preferred Education, Skills & Experience:

 

  • Formal or informal Bible training
  • Arabic and/or local language very helpful
