Lutheran World Federation Paediatric Counsellor Job in Kakuma, Kenya

Lutheran World Federation World Service Kenya Program is seeking to recruit a Kenyan national for the following position to be based in Kakuma.

Position: Paediatric Counsellor

Role Purpose: The Pediatric Counselor will be based in Kakuma Refugee Camp and shall be responsible for coordinating and overseeing Pediatric counseling activities within the camp. He/she will closely work with other sector staff to improve the proper implementation of the Unaccompanied and Separated Children (UASC), protection and development programs in Child Protection Case management unit.

The incumbent will report directly to the Child Protection Officer or his/her designate while working closely on a daily basis with other sectors of LWF.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Facilitating and coordinating direct professional counseling services for UAMs, separated children and other vulnerable identified / referred by LWF child protection sector and from other agencies.
  • Developing and implementing a holistic pediatric counseling program for children at risk.
  • Supporting in developing and implementing programs for trainings and capacity building for Child Protection national and refugee staff.
  • Preparing and submitting of monthly, quarterly and annual reports in relation to pediatric counseling services, community based psychosocial support.
  • Developing capacity building initiatives for Community using CBPS initiative.
  • Identifying psychologically distressed children in schools and Child Friendly Spaces.
  • Maintain and update database of counseling clients conduct debriefing session in the occurrence of critical incidence.
  • Collaborate with other LWF sectors and implementing partners in order to ensure smooth implementation of activities.
  • Any other duties that will be assigned to her/him.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Must possess a degree in counseling and/social work (sciences) with a strong bias towards counseling and social work.
  • A minimum of 2 years work experience in child protection, care and development in an INGO
  • Knowledge of Child Protection and HIV/AIDs issues in the Refugee Kenyan context
  • Knowledge of international and national legislation and policies on child protection.
  • Ability to tolerate cultural, educational and religious diversity in the work place.
  • Excellent communication, organization and presentation skills
