Job Vacancy: Health and Safety Officer
Job Responsibilities
- Ensure a safe work place environment without risk to health
- Ensure that all Health, Safety and environmental policies, procedures, rules and regulations are adhered to and are regularly reviewed, updated and communicated
- Ensure that all accidents are documented, investigated and recommended improvements implemented
- Assist with the development of H & S policies, safe systems of work and procedures
- Keep up to date with all aspects of relevant health, safety at work legislation and communicate relevant changes to the business
- Support and assist the EHS Manager and the development of policies and programs of the manufacturing company
- Advice and instruct on various safety related topics within the manufacturing industry
- Conduct regular risk assessment and enforce preventive measures on a regular basis
- Organize EHS training of employees and executive.
- Inspect premises and the work places of personnel to identify issues or non-conformity to set standards
- Oversee the recording and investigation accidents/ near misses to determine cause and assist in handling worker’s compensation claims with HR
- Assist in the preparation of reports on occurrences and provide statistical information to Upper Management and Senior Executives
- Assist and advice the Managing Director or delegate in all matters pertaining the health, the safety and security of personnel, the safeguarding of equipment and the preservation of environment
- Prepares and maintains Health and Safety documents as per the company requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Health or in a related field
- At least 3-5 years’ proven experience as Safety Officer within Kenya
- In-depth knowledge on DOSH, NEMA, NITA and procedures
- Experience in writing reports and assist in policies review for health and safety documentation
- Proficient in MS Office; working knowledge on safety management information system is a plus
- Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety Management
- Good interpersonal skills
- Taking initiative and working with minimum supervision
- Organization and planning
- HSE Training is desirable
- Ability to work independently
- Result oriented individual and a team player
- Ability to communicate effectively and deal with team members
- Recognizes and solves problems quickly and efficiently
