Background / General Description: Our client is a local National Non-Governmental Organization that works towards the empowerment of children living and working on the streets, vulnerable youths and poor marginalized rural and urban communities is seeking to recruit the position of Director. The organization is currently implementing its programs in 6 counties in Kenya with the Head office in Nairobi.

To realize its mission, the organization is looking for a highly qualified candidate to fill the position of the Director to lead the organization.

Purpose of the Position: Reporting to the Board of Directors and Trustees, the Director will provide strategic direction and leadership to the organization; be responsible for expanding the Organizations impact, effectiveness and capacity; and for embedding appropriate infrastructure to realise the organization’s long-term goals and self—sustainability. The incumbent will cultivate good working relationships with partners, donors, Government, stakeholders and beneficiaries.

Key Functions

  • Create and sustain an environment in which there is effective and impactful delivery of programmes and services to children, youth, families and communities within the framework of the organization’s Vision, Mission & Values.
  • Lead implementation of the strategic plan to ensure sustainable programmes that are
  • Operationally effective and guarantee quality community development and child-care according to defined standards.
  • Create and embed the necessary infrastructure to realise long-term self-sustainability through appropriate use of the organizations resources.
  • Personally drive and inculcate in the organization unequivocal accountability and compliance to the organization policies, standards and procedures.
  • Develop projections and annual budgets for effective and sustainable management of the organization’s financial and other resources.
  • Lead the local and external fundraising agenda by pursuing support from diversified sources such as local National and local Government’s support, external partners / supporters, local corporates (Public and Private) and individual sources to diversify and maximize the resource mobilization.
  • Create a high impact and high performance organization driven by talented and competent staff who have the necessary competencies to fulfill its long-term goals and objectives.
  • Lead and supervise the national and field office teams including organizational strengthening within the program interventions.
  • Represent the organization both nationally and internationally by maintaining a good working relationship with strategic stakeholders.

Qualification and Competencies:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized institution of higher learning.
  • A Master’s degree in Social sciences, Organizational Development or related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years working experience with at least 5 years experience in development work at senior management / leadership level with responsibility for developing nurturing and implementing sustainable development programmes.
  • A good understanding of child rights and child development issues.
  • Experience in fundraising through long term partnership with stakeholders who include project beneficiaries, partners, Government, donors, private sector and individuals
  • Must have strong managerial experience and leadership abilities to handle significant number of staff and diverse donor base.
  • An enthusiastic, decisive, pragmatic and dynamic hands on individual with a sense of urgency, attention to detail and unquestionable integrity.
  • Experience in working with or interacting with donors, a Board of Trustees on governance and management
  • Experience in Financial and grants management
