Vacant Position: Sales Manager

Duty Station: Nairobi

Job Purpose: Our client who is a global trading, logistics and distribution company is looking for a sales manager.

The role is accountable for achieving volume, revenue, and margin growth targets by growing company’s share within existing customers through the sale of product and service offerings, and by acquiring new customers by providing consultative solutions.

Description of Duties

Market Planning

  • Understands market situation, current accounts, prospects, competitors, and suppliers

Account Planning & Customer knowledge

  • Understands customer objectives, needs, and profitability drivers

Ownership & Performance Focus

  • Takes responsibility for and ownership of the market, develop customer base within territory, network and build on the territory

Coordination, Leadership & Management

  • Develops relationships within The Company and within the customer organisation.
  • Lead the commercial team to meet targets and motivate staff to excel
  • Develop career paths and succession planning in the department

Market knowledge

  • Keeps up-to-date and informed on market, industry, and regulatory issues

Technical knowledge

  • Identifies technical needs of customers and is well versed with all the technicalities involved in the product offering

Value Proposition

  • Understands and sells entire value offering from The Company.
  • Believes in the mission and vision for the company and promotes it to customers and reporting staff


  • Presents to customers with awareness of customer needs and marketing tools required to capture audience attention.
  • Take charge of the marketing tools needed to enhance customer communication and ensure the entire commercial team uses these tools to enhance the brand and name

Revenue growth

  • Grow revenue and meet set targets.

Negotiation & solution agreement

  • Has sound judgment and problems solving skills to create win-win solutions. Possess strong negotiation and influential skills

Implementation Management

  • Reacts to additional customer demands and needs. Develop contingency plans for the commercial business to manage additional demand through a planned process and being proactive instead of reactive

Sales Administration

  • Has strong command of MS Office, CRM, and Pastel packages

Pipeline Management

  • Manages pipeline proactively, recognizing customers’ stage in the decision cycle.


  • Delivers monthly reports to the Country Manager and executive management team on the commercial team as a whole


  • Other duties assigned by management.

Job Specification

  • Excellent interpersonal communication and strong negotiation and influential skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong relationship management ability
  • Excellent understanding of the chemical industry in Kenya
  • At least a bachelor’s degree in Chemicals or business
  • Ability to build reports and forecast on sales as well as trends. Must have advanced level of excel
  • Managing compliance with all relevant statutes and regulations as necessary
  • Strong management experience and excellent leadership skills to develop a team of sales staff
  • 5-10 years’ experience in chemical sales or related industry
  • Extensive business-to-business sales experience is essential
