Position Advertised: Cook

Job Summary: Reporting to the Administrator the Cook is responsible for preparing and delivering food according to the nutritional needs of patients/clients; and providing food to other clients, and staff while maintaining high standards of quality, sanitation and safety of food and the kitchen.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide operational management and leadership to the catering team for efficient and effective delivery of catering services in the Hospital.
  • Ensure compliance with the Hospital’s catering policy and guidelines and monitor implementation in consultation with and under the general guidance of the Administrator.
  • Undertake periodic review and make recommendations on changes/improvements on catering policies and procedures.
  • Manage the resources allocated to the Catering Department in a prudent manner.
  • Ensure that staff of Catering Department maintain effective service delivery to patients and Department/Units of the Hospital.
  • Facilitate regular departmental team meetings to promote communication and information sharing, discuss performance standards and compliance, staffing, monitor general trends in patient complaints and other concerns and/or developments.
  • Ensure that staff of Catering Department understand and promote emergency and evacuation procedures in line with relevant regulations and/or requirements.
  • Draw up, manage and monitor the budget for the Department in consultation with the Administrator and the Matron.
  • Undertake periodic assessment of the equipment used by the Catering Department and make recommendations on repairs and/or replacements.

Qualification, Competencies Required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Level of Education

  • KCSE mean grade C.

Specialized Training/Professional Qualifications

  • Diploma in Hotel Management, Institutional Management or a related field

Competencies/Abilities/Skills Required

  • Strong leadership skills with ability to build strong and highly motivated teams.
  • Strong interpersonal and multi-cultural skills blended with excellent customer service orientation
  • Creative and innovative
  • Diligent, honest and responsible person with self-discipline and ability to work under no supervision
  • Good spoken and written English and Kiswahili.
  • Resilient and able to work under pressure.
  • Ability to handle people with patience, understanding and respect.
  • Must be clean, neat and tidy.

Relevant Job Experience

  • At least three (3) years’ experience in a similar position
  • Hospital management systems is an added advantage
