Job Title: Commercial Manager – Retail & Distribution

Location: Nairobi

Salary: 400K – 500K

Our client is a well-established agricultural inputs supplier.

They seek to hire a well-experienced and result-oriented Commercial Manager who will lead the company’s revenue generation strategies.

The ideal candidate should have an entrepreneurial mindset and great leadership skills in addition to being a creative strategist with excellent organizational abilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement commercial strategies according to company goals and objectives aiming to accelerate growth
  • Conduct market research and analysis to create detailed business plans on commercial opportunities (expansion, business development etc.)
  • Assist in setting financial targets as well as budget development and monitoring
  • Alignment of people, process and technology to support commercial activities and improve sales, innovation and marketing effectiveness
  • Understand existing customer needs and coming up with strategies to ensure they are met
  • Act to acquire new customers and manage client relationships (new and existing)
  • Build and maintain profitable partnerships with key stakeholders
  • Monitor performance of commercial activities using key metrics and prepare reports for the Senior Management and Board
  • Improve supplier management ensuring minimal out of stock situations
  • Ensure profitable trading with all our customers
  • Solid knowledge of performance reporting and financial/budgeting processes
  • Develop and build strong relationships with stakeholders
  • Recruiting and managing a diverse team across the country
  • Coordinating the commercial team and collaborating with other teams
  • Managing team efficiency and cohesion

Skills & Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration or a related field.
  • At least 10 years’ experience in retail, distribution or FMCG
  • Commercial awareness partnered with a strategic mindset
  • Strong experience in managing complex projects / objectives / business units / functions
  • Strong local knowledge and deep understanding of consumers
  • Strong commercial acumen
  • Strong analytical and negotiation skills
  • Ability to build relationships and manage multiple teams efficiently
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills with a hands-on and result-oriented approach
  • Independent and entrepreneurial
  • Ability to ‘get things done’ through diverse teams
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skill
