Job Title: Training Business Development Officer

Job Purpose: The Business Development Officer (BDO) will work to improve the market position of the Company’s corporate training services and revenue growth.

The Officer will assist in achieving the long-term organizational strategic goals, build key customer relationships, identify business opportunities, negotiate and close business deals and maintain extensive knowledge of current market conditions.

The Officer will take up the sales role in the Learning and Development department at the Company.

It will be the role of the jobholder to work with the training team to increase sales opportunities and thereby maximize revenue for the company.

Main Responsibilities

a) New Business Development

  • Prospect for potential new clients and turn this into increased training business.
  • Cold call as appropriate to ensure a robust pipeline of opportunities. Meet potential clients by growing, maintaining, and leveraging your network.
  • Identify potential clients, and the decision makers within the client organization.
  • Research and build relationships with new clients.
  • Set up meetings between client decision makers and company’s training team, associate consultants or executive representatives.
  • Plan approaches and pitches. Work with the training team to develop appropriate proposals, concepts or quotes that speak to the client’s needs, concerns, and objectives.
  • Participate in pricing the training solutions/services.
  • Handle objections by clarifying, emphasizing agreements and working through differences to a positive conclusion. Use a variety of styles to persuade or negotiate appropriately.
  • Present an image that mirrors that of the client.

b) Client Retention & Relationship

  • Present new training products and services and enhance existing relationships.
  • Work with the training team and other internal colleagues to meet customer needs.
  • Arrange and participate in internal and external client debriefs.
  • Regularly visit clients and provide call reports with propositions that will enhance the relationship.

c) Business Development Planning

  • Attend industry functions, such as association events and conferences, and provide feedback and information on market and creative trends.
  • Present to and consult with mid and senior level management on business trends with a view to developing new services, products, and distribution channels.
  • Identify opportunities for campaigns, services, and distribution channels that will lead to an increase in sales.
  • Using knowledge of the market and competitors, identify and develop the company’s unique selling propositions and differentiators.

d) Business Analysis and Reporting

  • Submit regular progress reports and ensure data is accurate and guides management in strategic decisions.
  • Ensure that data is accurately entered and managed in the company’s sales management system.
  • Forecast sales targets and ensure they are met.
  • Track and record activity on accounts and help to close deals to meet these targets.
  • Work with other training team to ensure that the Company is prequalified as a training provider.
  • Research and develop a thorough understanding of the market and opportunities for the company.
  • Conduct relevant market/ customer surveys to inform management decisions

e) Compliance and Risk Management

  • Identify and document Risks and loss exposures for the company and the clients especially with focus on revenues.
  • Be accountable to follow procedures, attend risk control meetings, and, when appropriate, recommend training.
  • You may also be assigned such other duties as may become necessary at the discretion of the management.

Qualifications

  • More than 3 years’ experience in business development, marketing and sales in training, consulting, project or similar environment- A must
  • Bachelor’s Degree in business related field or its equivalent
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization

  • Research and analytical skills
