The Meru County Assembly Service Board invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the position indicated below:

Legal Officer I

CASB Scale (6)

1 Position

a) Requirements for appointment

1. Have a Bachelors of Law Degree;

2. Be admitted as an advocate of the High Court of Kenya;

3. Be in possession of a current practicing certificate;

4. Be a Member of the Law Society of Kenya;

5. Be proficient in computer applications; and

6. Must have at least three years of practical experience in legal practice.

b) Duties and responsibilities

1. Drafting Committee Bills and Private Members Bills;

2. Advising Assembly Committees and Members on Bills before the County Assembly;

3. Drafting proposed amendments to Bills before the County Assembly;

4. Serving as Legal Counsel to the Committees of the County Assembly;

5. Legal representation of the County Assembly and the CASB in Court proceedings;

6. Providing legal opinions to the Speaker, the County Assembly Service Board, the Clerk and the Departments within the County Assembly Service;

7. Carrying out legal research on assorted legal and procedural matters;

8. Drafting Rulings and Communications from the Chair for the Speaker of the County Assembly; and

9. Performing administrative and such other tasks as may be assigned from time to time.
