TechnoServe Communication Advisor Job in Nairobi, Kenya

Recruitment Notice

Job Title: Communication Advisor

Reports to: Program Manager

Location: Nairobi

Travel: Nairobi and Coast Region

Grade: 7

TechnoServe Background: TechnoServe works with enterprising people in the developing world to build competitive farms, businesses and industries. We are a nonprofit organization that develops business solutions to poverty by linking people to information, capital and markets.

With more than four decades of proven results, we believe in the power of private enterprise to transform lives.

Program Description: Through the mSPARK program, TechnoServe proposes to work with 28,000 micro-enterprise owners (70% youth, 60% women) for 12 months to provide targeted digital and financial support that helps them navigate and survive through the Covid-19 crisis and reduce the pandemic’s negative impact on them and their communities.

From our experience working in Kenya’s micro-retail sector, shop owners are predominantly youth (63%) and women (62%), and thus represent a strategic leverage point to support the economic survival of these groups and their ability to protect and invest in their own health and that of their households during the COVID-19 crisis.

Further, micro-enterprises can play an important role as trusted leaders and providers of essential goods, services, and health and safety information in their communities, many of which are lower income, high-density, and at greater risk to COVID-19 and its economic impacts.

Through a mixture of support packages, mSPARK will seek to ensure micro-enterprises survive the economic crisis brought about by the pandemic and in so doing, protect the jobs of owners and their employees.

Working closely with financial technology credit provider, a large repayable grant will be disbursed to the micro-enterprises to help and cushion them to survive and stabilize businesses in this sector.

Position Description: The job holder will be responsible for positioning the program through mainstream media, multimedia and social media platforms. Deepen understanding of our work with various audiences, translating our strategy and programs into powerful copy and stories that drive desired action.

The job holder will use innovative methods and new communication technologies to deliver a multimedia strategy that communicates TechnoServe work and gives beneficiaries a voice. In collaboration with the Micro Retail Director, and reporting to the Program Manager, the job holder will provide leadership and guidance on implementation of communication strategies and initiatives within the project.
