Legal Officer Job in Kenya – Financial Reporting Centre (FRC)

The Financial Reporting Centre (FRC) is a government agency created by the Proceeds of Crime and Anti-Money Laundering Act (POCAMLA) 2009, with the principal objective of identifying the proceeds of crime, combating money laundering, and fighting the financing of terrorism.

In order to enhance institutional capacity to deliver on its mandate, FRC is seeking to recruit qualified and competent personnel to fill the folowing position:

The Legal Officer will report to the Senior Legal Officer.

Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities:-

i. Implementing and reviewing legal policies and procedures to ensure that they are in accordance with the existing legislation;

ii. Drawing, reviewing and vetting of contracts, agreements and other legal documents;

iii. Collecting relevant background information and documentation in order to respond to legal requests;

iv. Identifying legal and compliance risks;

v. Compiling contract documentation for preparation and related documents for the Centre;

vi. Coordinating handling of cases involving the FRC between the departments and external lawyers;

vii. Providing of day to day legal and regulatory support to the functional areas of the FRC;

viii. Attending court hearings as neccessary;

ix. Maintain current knowledge of changes in legislation concerning operations of the Centre;

x. Preparing legal reports per requirements; and

xi. Undertaking legal research.

Person Specifications

i. Have a Bachelor of Laws degree from a recognized institution;

ii. Have a postgraduate Diploma in Legal Studies from the Council of Legal Education;

iii. Been admitted as an Advocate of the High Court;

iv. Hold a valid practicing certificate;

v. Fulfill the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution; and

vi. Must be a citizen of Kenya

iv. High level of judgement and integrity;

v. Interpersonal and negotiation skills;

vi. Knowledge of all applicable laws, rules and regulations;

viii. Discretion in handling confidential information; and

ix. Proficiency in computer applications.
