Job Vacancy: Sales and Customer Acquisition Manager

Job Summary: The job holder reports to the Cloverfield Operations Manager and will generally take a leadership role in sales and customer acquisition initiatives in electricity and connected village services including but not limited to sales forecasting, attracting, recruiting, retaining and engaging new customers, customer relations management, new products development as well as management of the sales agents and customer acquisition agents teams.

Educational / Professional background / Work experience

  • Master’s in Business Administration (Sales/ Marketing)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in sales & marketing or any business related field.
  • At least 5 years of sales, marketing and market development experience in Base of the Pyramid (BOP) Rural communities in the renewable energy, 3 years being in management position.
  • Intimate knowledge of rural BOP markets in Eastern Africa.
  • Knowledge of effective marketing and communication strategies for this market. Understanding of market development and growth of renewable energy in the rural BOP level
  • Aware of the latest market trends and shifts, as well as projections for the future
  • Certified sales & marketing manager (CSMM) certification highly desirable
  • Possession of a driving license is an added advantage.

Computer Literacy

  • Excellent computer skills- Microsoft Office package especially (Access), ERP – (CRM & Order Management Systems)
  • Proficient in productivity tools: InDesign, PhotoShop, Google Apps, Asana, Slack


1. Sales

i) Meets marketing and sales financial objectives by forecasting requirements; preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions

ii) Determines annual and gross-profit plans by forecasting and developing annual sales quotas for regions; projecting expected sales volume and profit for the companies services; analyzing trends and results; establishing pricing strategies; recommending selling prices; monitoring costs, competition, supply, and demand

iii) Ensures the delivery of an excellent quality sales service against Key Performance Indicators.

iv) Monitors and reports on KPI’s, derive performance insights from weekly dashboards, and support optimization of the metrics and programs across global markets.

2. Customer Acquisition

i) Improves current customer acquisition processes and establishes repeatable customer acquisition processes that will be used in other countries as the company expands

ii) Improves product marketability and profitability by identifying, and capitalizing on market opportunities; coordinating the expansion of customer base

iii) Provides information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends

iv) Establishes and drives customer segmentation

v) Drives all aspects of performance for customer engagement across email, web content, product and digital media in partnership with the execution teams

vi) Identifies opportunities to increase revenue and acts on them to develop ARPU across the business

3. Customer Relationship Management

i) Defines the customer segmentation approach and triggers programs to engage customers across their engagement with the company’s products and brand

ii) Ensures appropriate identification and responses to risks within the company

iii) Coordinates efforts to foster awareness and understanding of key risk management concepts within the business line

iv) Meets and defines goals to drive ongoing engagement, expansion, retention and loyalty in the company’s customer base.

v) Engages with the company’s customers and community leaders on a regular basis to ensure understanding of the customer base and coherence with the brand strategy.

vi) Sustains rapport with key customers by making periodic visits; exploring specific needs; anticipating new opportunities

vii) Responsible for all customer interaction and engagement

viii) Works with communities in a holistic manner to influence key decision making and alleviate areas of community conflict and resistance

4. Consumer Marketing

i) Collaborates with integrated marketing campaigns, product marketing, digital media, sales, customer success, marketing operations and field marketing teams to lead program execution.

ii) Achieves marketing and sales operational objectives by contributing marketing and sales information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; completing audits; identifying trends; determining system improvements; implementing change.

iii) Identifies marketing opportunities by identifying consumer requirements by way of defining the consumer market, competitor’s share, and competitor’s strengths and weaknesses; forecasting projected business; establishing targeted market share

5. Overseeing initiatives to attain sales targets

i) Puts in place interventions to meet the diverse needs of residents and stakeholders

ii) Manages marketing and sales personnel by onboarding, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; planning and reviewing compensation actions; enforcing policies and procedures.

iii) Develops and mentors customer engagement talent to meet the talent needs of the organization

6. New Product Development

i) Developing and rolling out of new products and services in the target market

7. Health and Safety

(i) Ensures that the team complies with the Health and Safety guidelines and follows good housekeeping rules

(ii) Ensures that the workstation and that of the team members are set up correctly for my individual and team requirements respectively.

(iii) Ensures that the working area and that of the team members are free from slip and trip hazards.

(iv) Attends all HSE training requested by management and

(v) Creates health and safety awareness to all Sales and Customer acquisition teams
