Description

Accountant

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to ensure accurate and timely reporting to management.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly bank reconciliations to ensure that all transactions are accurately recorded and balanced.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate reconciliation of merchant accounts, identifying and resolving any discrepancies.
  • Provide support to senior accountants with general ledger maintenance, journal entries, and other accounting functions.
  • Assist with the preparation of financial analyses and reports, providing insights to support business decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with internal financial policies, regulatory requirements, and statutory filings.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements within the accounting department to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Support the audit process by providing necessary documentation and assisting auditors with required information.
  •  Manage accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely payments and collections.
  • Perform other finance-related duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA qualification.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting or finance, preferably in a fintech or fast-paced environment.
  • Strong understanding of management reporting, bank, and merchant reconciliations.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks, Xero, or similar).
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis).
  • Familiarity with IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) and local accounting regulations.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A proactive and adaptable attitude, with a willingness to take on new challenges.
  • Knowledge of financial processes within the fintech industry is a plus.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with financial systems integration and automation.
  • Experience in a dynamic, high-growth startup or fintech environment.
  • Knowledge of KRA (Kenya Revenue Authority) tax filings and requirements.
