Description

Accountant
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to ensure accurate and timely reporting to management.
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly bank reconciliations to ensure that all transactions are accurately recorded and balanced.
- Ensure the timely and accurate reconciliation of merchant accounts, identifying and resolving any discrepancies.
- Provide support to senior accountants with general ledger maintenance, journal entries, and other accounting functions.
- Assist with the preparation of financial analyses and reports, providing insights to support business decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with internal financial policies, regulatory requirements, and statutory filings.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements within the accounting department to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Support the audit process by providing necessary documentation and assisting auditors with required information.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely payments and collections.
- Perform other finance-related duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA qualification.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting or finance, preferably in a fintech or fast-paced environment.
- Strong understanding of management reporting, bank, and merchant reconciliations.
- Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks, Xero, or similar).
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis).
- Familiarity with IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) and local accounting regulations.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- A proactive and adaptable attitude, with a willingness to take on new challenges.
- Knowledge of financial processes within the fintech industry is a plus.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with financial systems integration and automation.
- Experience in a dynamic, high-growth startup or fintech environment.
- Knowledge of KRA (Kenya Revenue Authority) tax filings and requirements.
