Advocacy and External Engagement Graduate Intern

World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families, and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice.

The East Africa Regional Office, operating in nine countries of East Africa namely; Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda is looking for an Advocacy and External Engagement Graduate Intern to work in its Nairobi office.

The Regional Advocacy and External Engagement Graduate Intern will provide administrative, research, planning, note taking and policy analysis support.

The role is aligned with the East Africa Region and Partnership Strategy, Our Promise 2030, Going Further Than We Imagined.

The role will support the achievement of the three Advocacy and External Engagement Outcomes namely:

1) No child is left behind through the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs framework,

2) The Enough campaign to end child hunger and malnutrition and ending violence against children (EVAC) and

3) Rights of children are prioritized in response to humanitarian crisis.

This internship is a 12 months’ talent incubation program aiming to give a young Christian  graduate real work experience, personal, spiritual and professional development through on-job mentorship and coaching.

This program is designed for Kenyan graduates who want to learn about collaborating and advocating for the most marginalised children, their families and communities.

The intern will learn and support the Advocacy department in:

1. Tracking, collecting data and sharing the progress of Field Offices in line with the advocacy areas of focus: Where no child is left behind through the 2030 Agenda and
the sustainable development goals framework, all children are protected from violence and rights of children are prioritized in response to humanitarian crisis.

2. Researching and analyzing current trends in East Africa on the Advocacy and External Engagement objectives

3. Amplifying the voices of children though policy influencing and participation in internal and external key moments and events.

4. Preparing draft policy briefs and position statements which will be finalized by the Director on issues related to the WV Campaign Enough, end child hunger and malnutrition with input from Field Offices and the Regional Office.

5. Organizing, participating, taking notes and following up on action points in Advocacy and External Engagement meetings with internal and external audiences such as, Filed Offices,the African Union, East African Community, Joining Forces Alliance.

6. Uploading the relevant Advocacy documents on platforms such as WV Central and Box.

7. Any other duty as assigned.

Qualifications Required:

  • Degree in social sciences, communication, public policy, management, law or any related field.
  • Understanding and knowledge of advocacy, external engagement, campaigns or policy analysis work in developing countries.
  • Knowledge on Child Rights including the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child or the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
  • Experience planning and organizing workshops or forums for participants in multiple countries.
  • Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills, particularly in a cross-cultural environment
  • Planning and organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple activities
  • Research experience especially in policy and advocacy
  • Understanding of humanitarian and fragile contexts
  • Must have graduated not earlier than June 2022

Additional experience required

  • Training certificate on advocacy, child rights and policy influence, an added advantage.
  • Experience within the humanitarian/development sector and fragile context
  • Demonstrates Christ-centered life and work
  • Demonstrates personal integrity and trustworthiness

Location: Nairobi, Kenya
