JOB TITLE: LEGAL INTERNS/ ATTACHES
LOCATION: NAIROBI
PURPOSE
Our prestigious mid-law firm is currently seeking both university students and advocates with the passion to further their legal careers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
- Both students and advocates are responsible for conducting thorough legal research to support their cases or assignments.
- This includes drafting various legal documents such as contracts, briefs, motions, pleadings, and agreements.
- Both students and advocates interact with clients to gather information, provide updates, and address their concerns.
- This involves preparing for hearings, trials, and meetings by organizing evidence, witness statements, and other pertinent materials.
- Depending on their level of experience and qualifications, both students and advocates may appear in court to represent clients or assist senior attorneys.
- Analyzing laws, regulations, and precedents to provide legal opinions and recommendations.
- Reviewing documents for relevance, privilege, and confidentiality in the context of litigation or transactions.
- Both students and advocates may be responsible for administrative tasks such as filing documents, scheduling appointments, and managing correspondence.
- Staying updated on legal developments, case law, and procedural changes through ongoing education and training.
- Assisting in the initial intake process by gathering information from potential clients and assessing the viability of their cases.
- Assisting with witness preparation, exhibit organization, and other tasks to prepare for trial.
- Drafting legal memoranda, correspondence, and other written communications.
- Presenting arguments in court or other forums on behalf of clients.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues, including other attorneys, paralegals, and support staff, to achieve optimal outcomes for clients.
- Managing case files, deadlines, and priorities to ensure efficient and effective representation.
- Adhering to professional ethics rules and guidelines in all aspects of legal practice.
- Engaging in activities to enhance legal skills, such as attending seminars, participating in moot court competitions, or publishing legal articles.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 0–2 years post-admission experience: Whether you're a recent graduate or have up to two years of post-admission experience, we welcome individuals at various stages of their legal careers.
- Minimum mean grade B in KCSE: We value academic excellence and seek candidates who have achieved a minimum mean grade of B in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or its equivalent.
- Minimum grade B+ in English subject in KCSE: Proficiency in English is essential in the legal profession. Candidates must have attained a minimum grade of B+ in the English subject in KCSE or its equivalent.
